I’m always on a never-ending quest to find that perfect foundation and this might come close to become ‘The One’. I am talking about none other than the infamous Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation. I heard about this foundation for the first time last summer, when all the YouTube beauty gurus were raving about it. I was curious but wasn’t brave enough to fork out €49.50 for a small bottle of 30 ml foundation (€1.65 per ml of product!!). Well, curiosity killed the cat and eventually I caved in with my tail between my legs….but delira at the same time because I really wanted to get my paws on one of these babies. Totally justified as it was my first time purchase of high end foundation😛 Ok less rant and let’s go straight into the review!
According to Chanel’s website, ‘the tiniest drop of this hybrid fluid creates a fresh, natural complexion. Skin looks refined and feels refreshed, creating an exquisite makeup experience. The fluid formula has a soft, water-light texture, and comes in 10 shades that match perfectly to skin’s undertones, whether pink or beige. Dermatologist-tested. Non-comedogenic. Oil- free.’
First I was underwhelmed…I knew what to expect packaging-wise after seeing it sooo many times on YouTube but for something that I paid close to €50, maybe I wanted to see some Swarovski crystals embedded in the bottle haha. I chose shade B30 Beige as I have a yellow/golden toned skin. The foundation comes inside a nude plastic bottle with a black plastic cap and it also has no pump. As you can see in the picture above, it comes in a squeezy bottle. First, you may wonder why it doesn’t come with a pump but once you pour some of the product onto your hand, you will know why. The foundation separates overtime when the bottle is left untouched. You MUST shake the bottle before dispensing the foundation to get an even, consistent mixture. Also for this reason, I knew why it is housed in a plastic bottle…it would be a silly idea to put the product into a glass container! Imagine the mess if you drop it on the floor accidentally whilst shaking it!
The formulation – I dispensed some onto my hand and didn’t think much of it, looked like a normal liquid foundation, but everything changed when I blended a small bit of it onto my cheek! I was like, ‘what is this sorcery!!’. Ok maybe not as dramatic but it melted and blended perfectly on my face, almost like a liquid-to-powder foundation experience. It left a subtle dewy sheen as well as a light coverage. This foundation is definitely buildable if you want more coverage (light-medium coverage). This suits me perfectly as I don’t have too much problem areas I need to cover, my main concern leans towards getting a more even skin tone/colour. This foundation has a light floral scent which lingers for approximately 10 minutes after its application. Personally, I don’t mind the scent at all, I quite enjoy it actually. If you are sensitive to scented products, you may want to reconsider before you decide to take the plunge.
As you can see above, the foundation barely covers my freckles (yes, I have a lot of freckles) but it evens out my skin tone and gives it a subtle sheen and a healthy glow. I blended the foundation using my fingers and this method works really well so far. I followed my usual summer makeup routine – concealer under the eyes, setting powder, blusher, brown eyeshadow and black eyeliner- and here is the final look:
I really do like the finish it gives, dewy but it doesn’t look or feel oily at all. My skin looks glowing and fresh! It is definitely one of my staple products for the summer. After 7 hours of running about doing errands (on a hot day!), the foundation is still intact and looks even. I didn’t find the need to reapply my makeup.
Would I repurchase? Yes, I am totally hooked now and I will repurchase once I run out.
So that’s it for this review and I hope you enjoyed reading it Let me know what your current favorite foundations for the summer are and also your thoughts on this foundation & review.
